Fairfax VA Area Dentists

Whenever they need to find a new dentist, Fairfax residents need merely look through the phone book or search their insurance company’s list of dental care providers. Seeking out a new dentist is often motivated by the need to relocate for work and higher than average job growth in the Washington DC area has recently put many newcomers in search of a good new dentist in Fairfax Virginia.

So how much choice does a new dental customer have when looking for a dentist in Fairfax? Simply searching Aetna Insurance’s Docfind website reveals one hundred and twelve primary care dentists in Fairfax VA. If that seems like a whole lot of dentists, well…it is!

When you look at it on a per capita basis, Fairfax has about one primary care dentist per two hundred residents. The national average ratio of people per dentist is 1,859:1. These stats mean Fairfax has nine or times its fair share of US dentists. What can be driving Fairfax’ outlier status?

One of the nation’s strongest housing markets and some of the country’s highest median incomes make this an area where most families have the insurance they need to maintain their smiles in gleaming condition. Indeed, this well-to-do slice of the American pie goes to a dentist far more often than average Americans do. These degreed professionals are earning higher incomes and demanding more preventive dental care; their kids often get braces and are seldom missing teeth.

But does it stand up to analysis that a well-to-do Fairfax resident population could be the sole driver of such a high ratio of dentists to residents?

Anyone who has ever seen the sun set in Fairfax knows that it’s a pretty sleepy town after dark..

Spotlight on the US Census Bureau and a helpful but rarely discussed statistic called the “employment residence ratio” (ERR), or “daytime population” A quick look at those statistics shows that during daytime hours, professional working and mall shopping populations dwarf the number of Fairfax residents. Between Fairfax with its very high 2.65 daytimer to night-timer ratio (ERR) and nearby Tysons Corner with a stratospheric 5.78 ERR, Fairfax County has become a veritable El Dorado for daytime services such as dentistry.

In brief, if you happen to be a freshly-minted
